The 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development, was adopted by all UN member states in 2015. At its heart are the Sustainable Development Goals, which are an urgent call for action by all countries. The City-transformers initiative has special focus on Goal 11: Make Cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

THE PEACEDAY YOUTH ASSEMBLY
The Peaceday Youth Assembly is a growing coalition of people and organisations,
collaborating across borders and generations, with a shared purpose to empower youth
to voice their opinions, and take concrete actions towards creating a world that works for all.
Once a year – in connection with UN’s International Day of Peace – we organise a global event on YOUTH ISLAND – a former sea fortress located a short sailing trip from the UN-City in Copenhagen.
On September 19, 2020, members of the Global Youth Assembly, drawn from almost 100 cities worldwide, gathered together on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations, to discuss imminent and impending global issues. A delegation of youth representatives sailed from Youth Island to the UN City in Copenhagen on a Viking Ship, to hand over the conclusions from the Global Youth Assembly to the world leaders.
In 2025, Peacecamp on Youth Island evolved into a 24-hour hackathon bringing together young changemakers, technologists, artists, and facilitators to imagine and prototype pathways toward a thriving, peaceful future.
On September 20–21, we once again lit a ceremonial bonfire in a decommissioned gun position on the island — transforming a former site of military defense into a shared space for collaboration, reflection, and future-building.
Throughout the hackathon, participants worked side by side in an underground “Peace Room,” using storytelling, Artificial Intelligence, and emerging technologies to explore Protopia — a future shaped by continuous, positive progress.
Key moments from Youth Island were livestreamed and shared with a global audience, connecting the local gathering to an international network of youth, innovators, and peacebuilders. In this way, the event became part of a wider, resonant movement — where ideas, insights, and inspiration ripple outward across borders and continents.
